How to Cure Vampirism in Skyrim

Break the Curse and Embrace the Sun: A Guide to Ending Vampirism in Skyrim!

Skyrim vampirism

Now, we know that becoming a Vampire might look cool at first, but it eventually gets boring because it makes you vulnerable to sunlight and fire.

The good news is, the disease isn’t permanent and there are multiple ways to cure vampirism in Skyrim that we will cover in this article.

The Various Stages of Vampirism

stages of vampirism

Unless you’re new to the game, you should know that there are 4 stages of vampirism in Skyrim.

Stage 1 isn’t all that bad, and you’ll only get some remarks that you look pale and hungry. For the most part, no one can really tell that you’re a vampire.

You can keep the disease at bay by feeding on blood, but you’ll have a bounty on your head if someone catches you during the act.

The severity increases the longer you go without drinking blood. In stages 2 and 3 you start becoming more and more vulnerable to sunlight and fire.

Up until stage 3, the vampire disease is ultimately quite easy to cure through a potion or by visiting a shrine.

As you transition into stage 4, being out in the sunlight starts drastically affecting your health, stamina, and magicka regeneration.

The options for curing the disease also become more limited in stage 4, but it’s still possible and we’ll touch more on that in the coming sections.

Curing Vampirism in Skyrim Before it Reaches Stage 4

1. Ingest a Potion of Cure Disease

Thankfully for players who are already tired of the scalding effects sunlight is having on their body, curing vampirism when it’s in stages 1 to 3 is pretty easy.

All you have to do is consume the cure disease potion that you can find in most alchemy shops in Skyrim.

You can also craft the potion yourself as well but you need the following ingredients:

  • Charred Skeever Hide
  • Hawk Feathers
  • Mudcrab Chitin
  • Felsaad Tern Feathers DR
  • Vampire Dust

But we wouldn’t recommend crafting the potion as it requires a bit more work.

Alternatively, players can also opt to just consume hawk feathers to cure vampirism if it hasn’t reached stage 4.

2. Pray at a Shrine

A method that might even be easier than visiting a shop and buying a cure disease potion is visiting a shrine in any of the major temples or cities of Skyrim.

The only downside is that this method doesn’t work for stage 4 vampirism, but it’s the preferred method for other stages.

3. Go to a Vigilant of Standar

Vigilant of Standar

Visiting a Vigilant of Standar is another easy method to cure below stage 4 vampirism in Skyrim.

They can be found in an isolated building South of Dawnstar in the Hall of the Vigilant or roaming close to altars in the open world.

You can talk to one of them to instantly cure your vampirism.

Curing Vampirism Stage 4: The Rising at Dawn Quest

Curing stage 4 vampirism requires a bit more legwork than other stages, but it can be done through The Rising at Dawn Quest.

You can start the quest by visiting a local bar in Skyrim, like Dead Man’s Drink. Talk to the bartender and they will eventually tell you that Falion in Morthal specializes in vampirism.

falion

Morthal is located in the Northern part of the map, Southwest of Ustengrav. Falion is typically outside of town, and at night, you’ll find him to the northwest. Speak with him after 6 PM and he will sell you a Black Soul Gem for 150 gold.

If you don’t have enough gold, you can find one from necromancers at Fort Snowhawk. You’ll require the Black Soul Gem to complete the quest.

Use Spell Trap on an NPC, kill them, and fill the Black Soul Gem with their soul. After that, speak with Falion once more.

He will inform you to meet him between 4 and 6 AM at the Summoning Stones north of Morthal. Then Falion will lead a ritual to finally cure you of vampirism.

Note: You can go back to Falion if you contract Vampirism again. But you’ll need to fill the Black Soul Gem each time.

The Bottom Line

Alright so this pretty much covers all the ways to cure vampirism in Skyrim. Just remember that it’s totally fine to play as a vampire if that makes the game more enjoyable for you.

But if you do decide to cure your vampirism, there are several ways  to choose from, depending on your character’s stage of infection and your preferred playstyle.

Some ways involve quests, while others require you to find and purchase specific items.

Regardless of which method you choose, curing vampirism in Skyrim is a unique and exciting experience that adds an extra layer of depth to the game.
